Pakwan

A very tolerant co-food reviewer never gave up on me!! time after time she kept asking for lunch/ dinner, but those were the days I was tied to my chair working :/ the general saying is third time’s the charm but for us it was the fourth time; A food invite to Pakwan 🙂

We had a private dining area, set up royally with golden and white crockery and the red napkins simply complimented the whole royal set-up. It looked very elegant that I took extra effort not to knock down anything 😀

We started off with Zuppa di asparagi, sounded really fancy! though the consistency looked thick, it had the normal consistency of a soup! It was made with asparagus sauteed with butter and blended with vegetable stock and cream.

I had a taste of their Dal Palak Shorba which looked sober but pounced with spiciness of the highest caliber! I quietly went back to my zuppa!

Of all their starters, I fell in love with their Palak Kurkura Chaat and Paneer Dum Anari. Palak Kurkura Chaat had crispy fried palak leaves soaked in curd, and completed with mint chutney and sev! It surprised me how the palak leaves managed to stay very crisp even after being dipped in curd.

Generally in starters, paneer is used as the filing inside, but here paneer is used as the outer layer and the stuffing inside had a mix of vegetables, a very Indian touch the dish had.

I love Broccoli and cheese separately, somehow their Broccoli and cheese baguette did not blend well together! If it was made as only Cheese Baguettes, it would have been good.

Their Thai Spiced Spring roll did not have any surprises but it was made well, crispy and less oily. A personal dislike for me was the Aatish-e-aloo, not being a big fan of aloo (Potatoes), this  was baby potatoes rubbed with mint chutney and slightly grilled, the flavours weren’t deep enough.

Before going to the main course, they served Lasagne De Vendure and Pakwan Delight Pizza. A very Indian Oriented restaurant, pulled out their Italian wands and wooed me! The Pizza was thin crust and made with zucchini, bell peppers, olives and cheese. Their lasagne was also good.

I had to take special efforts to eat their main course! But there is always room for good food 😀

They had tawa subzi, paneer multani masala and dal pakwan! Their dal pakwan, dal makhani, was something I would back to Pakwan! the dal and the butter was very rich in taste.

Their Firangi Subzi sizzler biryani, did not click well for me, spicy, slightly over salted.

For desserts, they had Chocolate jamun and litchi ke rabdi, I just had a bite of both and preferred their litchi rabdi over their jamun!

Overall, Pakwan is a place where one does not miss non-vegetarian food!  They had an array of mocktails and even Caesar’s salad.

I’m in awe with the presentation and the decor of the place. Looks like you visited a Palace in the 40s. Keep munching for the both of us. This expat misses home so much, and your stories give him so much joy. God bless.
