You are talented if you manage to walk past the narrow space separating tables and not hitting either anyone or anything! Novelty Tea House in Sowcarpet, Chennai is an apt place to drop down after managing to shop and bargain with the wholesalers there.
We started with their Lassi, Pani puri, Pav bhaji, Cheese pav bhaji, Masala papad and a Mini lunch. The masala papad came first, fried to the perfect crispness without excess oil, fresh cut tomatoes, onions and crisp sev spread uniformly all over it. Leaving it for a long time will naturally make it soggy so hog it all of the minute it comes to your table.
The lassi, thick consistency with the right amount of sweetness is an instant thirst quencher. Pani puri came along too, the puris, aloo (potato) and the water were given separately, and the only thing which was not present was the small chunks of onion which could have made it a lot better!
The pav bhaji and cheese pav bhaji tasted nothing great, but the cheese in the pav bhaji did make it taste much better. The tali was served with two rotis, rice, three variety of subzis (paneer, dal and peas) and a big cup of buttermilk.
On the whole a very nice place to sit and eat chaat for very nominal prices but do not the ideal place for people who hate crowd, claustrophobic and expects fine dining.
